Basic Notions

Some few basic notions about the work with ADWorks will be given here. AD = Active Document.

About Elements in AD

Each AD is a collection of elements. Therefore we look first at some notions like "Create elements", "Select Elements", "Move Elements", "Align Elements" , "Move Elements"  etc..
- See how to create elements.
- Select / Unselect 1 elements and move that element
- How to make a multiple selection
- How to resize 1 element
- How to align, align, move several elements
The commands of the Edition menu of ADWorks act on the selected elements (align, delete, bring to front and so on). With the commands of the Selection menu you can make various kinds of selections. Among them, the "Redo preceding selection", the "Save Selection" and the "Apply Saved Selection" may be particularly useful.

About Resource in  AD

Resource Files are files containing Pictures (extensions *.bmp, *.jpg, etc.), Sounds (*.wav, etc.), or Video Clips (*.avi, etc.), etc.
ADWorks and ADPlayer display the contents of the Resource Files and use them as active elements (command Create/Multimedia Portion).
This is certainly a main feature of the Adprogs. However, the exercises 1 to 12 do not use resources. More about resources will be found at Basic Notions about Resources and the use of resources will be introduced up from exercise 13.

About Messages in  AD

ADPlayer displays a message when the learner acts on an element by filling in and validating a text field, validating a choice in a list, requesting a hint or solution, etc. The message is normally in text format but it can also be linked to a multimedia element. Some illustrations of messages:   1 ,   2 3 4 5 6 .
ADWorks automatically creates and ads the default messages to each newly created document. The default messages appear at special situations when a unforeseen answers is given. The above-mentioned examples 1 to 6 are typical example of default messages. The default messages save a lot of time for creators of source documents. The default messages can be modified, replaced or suppressed. The above-mentioned example 7 is not a default message. The creator of the document has created this message.
The messages are produced, modified and destroyed with the Message Editor. The main access to the Message Editor uses the menu Edit / Message Editor. The access via elements uses the Evaluation Tables of element (See illustration of that access). Some of the Editor’s functions (deleting messages, for example) can only be accessed via the main access in the Edit Menu. Creating and modifying Links, however, can only be done via each element’s access. How does the Message Editor look like?
